UK universities have raised £50m in library fines

When you’re a student, it can be easy for money to go down the drain without you even realising, and spending here and there can add up quickly. Indeed, new figures have revealed that a significant amount of students’ money has gone towards overdue library book fees – with nearly £50 million raised as a result.

Data, revealed in the Freedom of Information requests by the Press Association, showed that Leeds University raised the most in overdue library fines – more than £1.8 million in the past six years. Imperial College London, on the other hand, raised the least with just £26,703.
